The best Pretty Scale alternative depends on what you want. Pick Nikhaar Face IQ for free, on-device geometry without a beauty rating. Pick GlowUp Face for skin, hair and photo-ready feedback. BeautyScan and FaceScore suit people who still want a score. Pretty Scale itself remains a quick browser game, but its number isn't an objective verdict.
What Pretty Scale measures today
Pretty Scale's official Help page says its result uses face shape, feature placement, feature size, and symmetry. It also uses distances between the eyes and lips. The golden ratio is sometimes used. You place lines and dots on the photo, so placement can change the result.
The main page returns a 1–100 beauty rating. It calls the method a complex mathematical calculation and warns that it can be wrong. No trained model, training set, or validation against independent human ratings is stated publicly. That makes the result a proportion-rule score, not a measured probability that other people will agree.

Why a proportion score is weak evidence
A ratio can describe landmark positions in one image. It can't establish a universal beauty standard. Harrar, Myers and Ghanem reviewed 1,253 records for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in 2018. They assessed 44 papers and found the datasets too different for a shared quantitative definition of beauty.
A calculator must choose its own target ratios and weights. Human raters do not supply one stable ground truth. A score can follow its formula yet fail to predict how a particular person sees you.
The golden ratio does not solve that problem. It is one chosen target. Pretty Scale uses it sometimes; BeautyScan and FaceScore centre their scoring on it. None provides an independent validation study for its beauty number.
The photo can change before your face does
Photo conditions affect the input. Wilson and Callan's 2021 paper explains that camera-to-face distance changes the visible ratios of nearer and farther features. Close shots enlarge the nose and lips relative to the ears. The common label “lens distortion” misses the main cause: distance.
Lighting also changes exposure, shadows, colour, and apparent depth. Wilson and Callan say light position and distance must stay fixed for matched facial photos. A proportion or skin score can therefore move because its input changed, even when your face did not.

Illustrative example
You scan a close bathroom selfie, then a brighter photo taken farther away. The result changes. That does not show a glow up or decline. It may reflect perspective, shadow, pose, expression, or landmark placement.
Retake once in diffuse front light. Keep the camera at eye height, step back, crop later, use a neutral expression, and remove beauty filters. If two results still differ, treat the number as photo-sensitive. If they match, you have shown repeatability under those conditions, not objective attractiveness.
What you can act on instead
Choose an output tied to a real decision. Face shape can narrow a haircut or glasses shortlist. Hair framing can become a salon brief. Repeated shine, redness, or texture under matched light can guide a routine check. A photo tool can't diagnose a skin condition.
Don't treat a low proportion score as an instruction to change your anatomy. Start with the photo, hair, brows, grooming, or makeup. Those changes are reversible. Our guide to an AI face scan without an attractiveness score explains why. For more options, see the best AI face analysis apps compared.
Where the other tools are stronger
Pretty Scale is stronger when you want a quick browser number and nothing more. BeautyScan is stronger for iPhone or iPad users who want face comparison, a golden-ratio mask, and a score to share with friends. FaceScore combines its score with personal-colour and celebrity-match features in one app.
Nikhaar Face IQ is the stronger free no-score choice for Android. It needs no signup, allows repeat scans, and says the selfie stays on your phone. GlowUp Face can't match that privacy model because its main scan runs on a server.
GlowUp Face is also the wrong choice if you want an app, push reminders, offline use, streaks, or an automatic progress timeline. Its free preview needs an email and shows only selected signals. One payment buys one report. If you want a number to compare with friends, it will never give you an attractiveness rating.
Which one should you pick?
- Choose Pretty Scale for a free, quick 1–100 browser result you will treat as entertainment.
- Choose BeautyScan for an iOS score, face comparison, and shareable friend feature. Check the current premium terms first.
- Choose FaceScore for an iOS beauty score paired with personal-colour and face-type outputs.
- Choose Nikhaar Face IQ for free Android geometry with no beauty score, signup, or photo upload.
- Choose the GlowUp Face AI face scan when you want ranked skin and hair-framing observations, hairstyle options, and a 30-day plan without an attractiveness rating.
For GlowUp Face comparisons, match distance, light, pose, and expression. Its image readings are repeatable from the same photo, not clinical grades. If you can't name the decision a result will change, don't pay for it.
