Does Deleting a Face Analysis App Delete Your Uploaded Photos?

Does deleting a face analysis app delete your uploaded photos? Usually not. Uninstalling removes access to the app on your phone. It does not reliably erase selfies, face measurements, generated images or account records held on company servers. It may not stop recurring charges either. Cancel billing, delete saved projects and the account, then make a written data-deletion request if the policy leaves anything unclear.

A face tool can create more than one file. It may hold the original upload, cropped images, landmarks, measurements, scores, generated portraits and account logs. Each item can follow a different retention schedule.

Four actions that look alike but are not

Apple's September 2026 support page and Google Play Help both state that uninstalling an app does not cancel its subscription. Neither platform says an uninstall sends the developer a data-erasure request.

What each exit action does
Action What it changes What it does not prove
Uninstall the app Removes access to the installed app on that device. It does not prove that server uploads, generated images, account data or subscriptions were removed.
Cancel the subscription Stops a future renewal through the billing provider. Access may continue until the paid period ends. It does not delete your account, photos or scan history.
Delete a scan or project Removes the selected item if the provider offers that control. It may leave thumbnails, derived face data, logs, backups and the wider account.
Delete the account Starts the provider's account-removal workflow and should cover associated personal data. Billing, legally retained records and delayed backup deletion may follow separate processes.
Submit an erasure request Lets you name every data category and ask for written confirmation. The legal right is not absolute, and the provider may need to verify your identity.

Apple Developer guidance from 2026 requires account-creating apps to offer account deletion. It says associated data should go, apart from records the developer must legally retain. Apple also warns that its billing can continue after account deletion unless the subscription is cancelled separately.

Google Play's 2026 User Data policy also requires account deletion inside the app and through an external web route. It says freezing or disabling an account does not qualify as deletion.

Those rules apply to apps that create accounts. A tool without an account can still upload a photo. In that case, look for a photo-removal control or privacy contact. No account does not mean no server copy.

Current provider policies show why the answer varies

This desk comparison was checked on 26 October 2026. It reviews published policies, not the providers' servers. We did not create accounts, upload photos or test the deletion systems.

Published deletion terms from four face-photo services
Service What its policy says What you need to do Remaining limit
Umax Its policy, last updated in October 2023, lists selfies and biometric data. It says face scans can remain for up to one year unless law requires otherwise. Submit its data-subject request or contact the company and name the scans and derived data you want erased. The policy does not say that uninstalling starts deletion. It gives no general schedule for removing backups after a request.
Lensa Its May 2026 policy explicitly says deleting the app does not delete the account. It says account and avatar deletion is generally processed within four hours. Delete saved avatars or the account inside the app. Use its privacy contact for a separate photo-deletion request when needed. Retention differs by feature. Some effects send photos to outside AI providers that follow their own deletion processes.
FaceApp Its policy says selected photos are cached with cloud providers for 24 to 48 hours after the last edit. Use the Request cloud data removal control in the app's Support section if you want earlier removal. Personal-information requests use a separate route. The automatic photo-cache schedule does not cover every category of non-photo information.
GlowUp Face It is a browser service, so there is no app to uninstall. Paid results can remain for up to 72 hours, while generated-image caches last up to 90 minutes. A source scan may be archived privately. Request deletion of photos, reports, lead records, analytics and internal stored copies through the site's contact route. Anonymous comparison readings remain if you opted in because they cannot be traced back to you. There is no self-service deletion dashboard.

If you use Umax, the Umax photo-retention breakdown examines its policy gaps. If billing drove your decision, the Umax alternatives comparison separates payment models from privacy claims. The broader AI beauty-app privacy checklist covers training, processors and consent before an upload.

Use this order before uninstalling

  1. Find who bills you. Check the receipt, Apple subscriptions, Google Play subscriptions and any direct provider account.
  2. Cancel every recurring plan you no longer want. Save the screen showing the cancellation and final access date.
  3. Download any report or image you want to keep. Account deletion may make it impossible to recover later.
  4. Delete scans, projects, avatars and generated images inside the service. Record which controls you used.
  5. Delete the account through its settings or external deletion page. Save the confirmation and request number.
  6. Send a written erasure request when the policy does not clearly cover every photo and derived record.
  7. Revoke camera and photo-library permissions, then uninstall. Revoking permission prevents later access but does not erase previous uploads.

Do not uninstall first if the only deletion control sits inside the app. Reinstalling may work, but it adds friction and can leave you unsure which account you used.

A deletion request you can copy

Subject: Request to delete my face photos and related data

Please delete my account and all personal data linked to [email address or user ID]. This includes original uploads, crops, thumbnails, generated images, scores, landmarks, measurements and other derived face data.

Please notify any processors that received this data. Confirm what was deleted, what remains for legal reasons, how backups are handled and the final deletion date. Please confirm my subscription status separately.

For UK readers, current Information Commissioner's Office guidance says an erasure request can be verbal or written. A written request gives you a record. The organisation normally has one calendar month to respond. Complex cases can add up to two months, but the organisation must explain the extension.

The ICO marks that guidance as under review after the Data (Use and Access) Act. Check the current guidance if a deadline or refusal matters to you.

What a deletion confirmation cannot prove

A confirmation email records the provider's answer. It is not an independent audit of its servers. Ask for named data categories and dates instead of accepting a vague statement that your information is gone.

Backups may remain until their normal overwrite cycle. The ICO says providers should explain this and keep erased data beyond active use during that period. If a policy names cloud or AI processors, ask whether the request reached their copies too.

Some records can remain for tax, fraud prevention or legal claims. Properly anonymised statistics may also remain because they no longer identify you. The provider should name these exceptions and explain their retention periods.

Deletion by the provider cannot remove copies you saved elsewhere. Check your camera roll, device backups, cloud storage, messages and social accounts separately.

Before you try another face scanner

Choose the data path before comparing feature lists. On-device processing avoids uploading the input. Server processing needs a clear retention period, named processors and a deletion route you can find before submitting anything.

GlowUp Face runs in a browser and has no subscription. Its free preview needs an email, while one payment unlocks one full report. Review how the browser AI face scan reads your photo before deciding whether to upload. The scan uses server processing, and portrait or hairstyle rendering sends the image to OpenAI. Some stored copies and records require a manual deletion request.

If your rule is that no face photo may leave your device, do not use that scan. Choose an on-device tool instead.
