What it can help with
The American Academy of Dermatology describes salicylic acid as an ingredient that exfoliates and opens clogged pores. It is used for whiteheads and pimples. A scan showing visible pores cannot tell whether a pore is clogged or whether this is the right treatment for you. AAD: Acne diagnosis and treatment.
Cleanser or leave-on: enter the difference
Write “salicylic acid cleanser” if it is washed off and “salicylic acid serum” if it stays on. Do not assume the serum replaces the cleanser one for one. The contact time, formula and label directions matter; the checker cannot recover those facts from a brand name.
Check your other exfoliating products
A retinoid, exfoliating acid and scrub can add up to more irritation than you expected. The AAD advises considering the products you already use before exfoliating. If your routine lists several, our checker flags the overlap for review rather than calling the combination chemically forbidden. AAD: How to safely exfoliate at home.
A useful next step
Keep the label nearby and record how often you use the product. Review one change at a time. If your concern is persistent breakouts, pain or scarring, ask a qualified clinician rather than selecting treatment from a photo score.
A couple of common questions
Does BHA mean salicylic acid?
In everyday skin care, BHA commonly refers to salicylic acid. Check the actual ingredient list; marketing labels alone do not identify the complete formula.
Should I add salicylic acid if a scan finds visible pores?
Not automatically. Pore visibility is a cosmetic observation, not proof of a blockage or a need for an exfoliant.
